I haven’t done a fashion post in a while and thank goodness it’s getting warmer now so we can all start to think about wearing some more summery inspired outfits. I am not one for girly choices- in fact I rarely wear dresses but Im so down with this new trend we are seeing emerging on both the catwalk and the high street. In previous years we would have connected the ruffle or the frill to a meringue-esqe wedding dress or a twee cardigan worn by your granny. The modern ruffle and subtle frill trend is perfect to add some detail to your outfits and can also be extremely flattering.
A ruffled neckline on a blouse or shirt can add curve to a flatter bust or straighter body shape where as a ruffled hemline can accentuate curves and often pull in a waist or cover a fuller thigh. We are seeing this trend in both smarter office wear and also on boho/occasion dresses. Most of these styles come to the knee or below so do not rule out any age group and can be extremely smart and sophisticated.
This first site is a new find for me and I love it Rufflesbexley– this dress (or you could wear it as a tunic), is so pretty and versatile. The white is more summer party or holiday but the black could be worn more formally with tights or with leggings/ leathers. Check out their instagram page for all the latest styles. Their off the shoulder ‘Eden’ is my absolute favourite in Navy-pictured below.
Next is this offering from Forever Unique– (I do model for this brand but they do not pay me to blog or advertise I just wanted to stress that). The Juliet– I chose this because a) it is beautiful, but b) it is also extremely flattering and a more classic style. It has a sleeve so if you don’t want your arms and shoulders on show it is a great option and it is below the knee and stretchy- I promise as I’ve worn it at shows. Amazing for the races or a wedding guest…the floral and mesh details add hints of femininity and sexiness to the design.
I came across this brand in LA as they are based in San Francisco- I love the waterfall jackets and ruffled blouses with bell sleeves. They are so chic hence the name- Chicwish. The featured image is one of their shirts which is so me-I wear mine with flared jeans or a skewed hem, dark, denim mini as I love that 70s vibe for summer. This also looks really cute paired with a pleated midi- length skirt if you want to cover up.
Ruffles can also look fabulous on a chunky knit-maybe a tiered sleeve or on a a structured trench in A/W. (see below).
I hope this has inspired you all to have fun frolicking in your frills this season….
